If your water heater is leaking from the tube on the side of the unit know as the t&p valve you should be able to replace the valve for about $15. This does require turning off the power source and draining down the water heater.
Hot water has a foul smell-
If your hot water has a foul odor it could be because of your water heater. The anode rod in a water heater can go bad and cause for the water to smell.
Water Heater leaking from drain valve
The drain valve is located at the bottom of the water heater and is used to connect a garden hose to in order to drain down the tank. This valve can go bad and is usually an easy fix.
